AskSami or ChatGPT: which one for getting your first users?

Pick ChatGPT if you want one assistant for many jobs, and AskSami if you have launched and want that one product read and held to a plan. ChatGPT is OpenAI's general assistant: Plus is $20 and Pro is $100, $200 or $500 a month, with Free and Go plans on its pricing page, read on 8 October 2026. AskSami is a marketing and distribution expert for founders who have launched: once you sign up it reads your repository, up to 40 pages of your site and the numbers you give it, then ranks the ways to get customers. That first read is free, and its paid plans are Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month.

What ChatGPT is

ChatGPT is a general assistant made by OpenAI. It answers what you ask: writing, code, research, analysis, images. Marketing advice is one use among many, and OpenAI's own projects page gives "Act like my marketing mentor" as an example of an instruction to set. Gemini and Copilot are assistants of the same kind.

The ChatGPT pricing page lists four personal plans, Free, Go, Plus and Pro, priced by country. For the United States on 8 October 2026 it listed Go at $8, Plus at $20 and Pro from $100 a month, and it shows other figures in other countries. OpenAI's help pages give Plus as $20 a month, billed monthly, and Pro as three plans at $100, $200 and $500 a month. The Go page says none of the three has annual billing.

What it can do that matters here, each from its own page:

  • Search the web. Web search is on every plan, Free included.
  • Read your files. Documents, spreadsheets, presentations and images on Free and paid plans, 3 uploads a day on Free. A project keeps chats, files and instructions together, capped at 5 files on Free, 25 on Go and Plus, 40 on Pro.
  • Remember. Memory carries preferences and details from past chats into new ones. The pricing table marks it Limited on Free and Expanded on Plus and Pro.
  • Connect GitHub and other apps. With GitHub connected, ChatGPT reads the repositories you allow. That page says availability varies by plan and names none. The pricing table marks apps connecting to internal tools as No on Free and Go, Yes on Plus and Pro. Other apps include Google Drive and Slack.
  • Research and schedule. Deep research reads many sources and writes a report with citations. Scheduled tasks run a job at a time you set.

Two of those, in OpenAI's own words:

When GitHub is connected, ChatGPT can retrieve permitted repository content on demand, including code, README files, and other documentation.

This live access does not create a synced GitHub index.

Memory does not retain every detail from every conversation. ChatGPT decides which available information is relevant to a response, and Memory can change as your context changes.

What AskSami is

AskSami is a marketing and distribution expert for founders who have launched a product and cannot get users or paying customers. Sami is the one you talk to in the chat. It does one job, and it is not a general chatbot.

AskSami reads what you give it, all of it optional: your GitHub repository, up to 40 pages of your live site, and the screenshots, ad exports and payment exports. From that it writes an honest read of why the product does or does not sell, and a ranked plan of up to ten ways to get customers, free methods before paid ones. The plan runs one family of channels at a time.

Signing up is free, and so are your full honest read and your ranked plan. A plan gives you more of Sami. The paid plans are Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month, paid a month at a time with no contract. How AskSami works has the detail.

Side by side

Both can read a repository, a web page and a file. The difference is what happens without being asked. ChatGPT answers what you ask, from the web and from what you gave it or connected. Once you sign up, AskSami reads the product first and writes its honest read and its ranked plan without waiting for a question.

Who does the workYou do. It answers, drafts and researches when you ask, and Codex can write and push code. You do. Sami answers, ranks and asks.
What it knows about your productWhat you tell it, upload, keep in a project or connect, what it finds on the web and what Memory kept. With GitHub connected it fetches repository content on demand.Whatever you give it: your GitHub repository, up to 40 pages of your live site, the screenshots and exports. None of it is required.
What you getAn answer to each question, a cited report from deep research, drafts, images and code.An honest read of why the product does or does not sell, a ranked plan of up to ten ways to get customers, and, on a paid plan, a morning brief.
What it keepsYour chat history, and a memory you can correct or delete. OpenAI says it does not retain every detail and can change.AskSami keeps a dated record of every number, channel and decision you give it, and nothing in it is edited or deleted while the account exists.
What it costsFree plan. In US dollars Go is $8, Plus $20 and Pro $100, $200 or $500 a month, billed monthly. The pricing page prices by country.Free to sign up, with the honest read, the ranked plan and a small monthly allowance. A plan gives you more of Sami: Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month, with no contract.
What it will not doWrite to your repository through the GitHub app, which only reads. Pushing code is the job of Codex.AskSami never posts anywhere for you, never spends your money and never writes to your code. You do those things yourself.

When ChatGPT is the better pick

  • You want one assistant for many jobs. Writing, code, research, spreadsheets, one off questions. AskSami does one job.
  • You have not launched. AskSami is for a product that is already live.
  • You want something made. ChatGPT drafts, makes images and, through Codex, writes and pushes code. AskSami never writes to your code.
  • You want a lot of use for nothing. The Free plan has unlimited text chats, subject to its abuse guardrails. AskSami's free plan gives you the honest read and the ranked plan, and a small monthly allowance for the chat.
  • Your files are big. ChatGPT takes a document up to 512 MB. AskSami takes up to 20 files with a message, 4 MB each.

When AskSami is the better pick

  • You have launched and nobody is signing up or paying. That is the case it is built for.
  • You want the product read before the advice. Your product's own code, up to 40 pages of the site and your exports, read up front.
  • You want to be held to an order. One ranked plan for this one product, free methods before paid ones, one family of channels at a time.
  • You want a record that does not change. Every number, channel and decision dated, with a correction added beside the old row.
  • You want signups and payments tied to their source. Through a small snippet and your own payment webhook.

Using both

Sensible, because they do different jobs. Sami ranks the channels and names the first thing wrong. When a fix is code, Sami writes the instructions for your own coding tool to run, and Codex is one such tool.

You can also get closer with ChatGPT alone: make a project, upload your pages and exports, connect GitHub on a plan that has it, and set a scheduled task. The reading, the ranking and the record are then yours to set up and keep. Being recommended by ChatGPT is a separate question, covered in ChatGPT and AI search.

Questions people ask

Can ChatGPT read my GitHub repository?

Yes, where your plan includes it. OpenAI's GitHub page says ChatGPT retrieves permitted repository content on demand, and that the app only reads. AskSami also has read only access, and reads the repository you give it without waiting for a question.

Can I just use ChatGPT for marketing advice?

Yes. It searches the web on every plan, reads the files you give it, and deep research can be pointed at specific sites. The advice is as specific as what you gave it or connected.

Does ChatGPT remember my product between chats?

Partly. OpenAI's memory page says Memory can remember relevant details from your chats, does not retain every detail, and can change as your context changes. Your chats stay in your history.

Which costs less, AskSami or ChatGPT?

ChatGPT. It has a Free plan with unlimited text chats, the pricing page listed Go at $8 a month for the United States, and Plus is $20 a month. Signing up for AskSami is free, and so are its honest read and ranked plan. Its first paid plan, Starter, is $20 per month. They buy different things: a general assistant, or one product read, ranked and recorded.

What about Gemini and Copilot?

They are general assistants too. Only OpenAI's pages were read for this page, so check each one's own plan and help pages for what it connects to and what it costs.
