AskSami or an analytics tool such as DataFast: which one for getting your first users?
Pick an analytics tool if you already have traffic and need to see in detail where your revenue comes from. Pick AskSami if few people come or nobody pays and you do not know why. DataFast measures your visitors and ties revenue to the channel that brought it: as read on 8 October 2026, Starter is $9 a month and Growth $19 a month for up to 10k monthly events on monthly billing. AskSami is a marketing expert that judges why a product does or does not sell. Its honest read and ranked plan are free, and its paid plans are Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month. The two can be used together.
What DataFast is
DataFast calls itself revenue first analytics. You add its script to your site and connect your payment provider, and it reports your visitors, the channels they came from and the revenue each channel brought. In its own words:
Discover which marketing channels bring customers so you can grow your business, fast.
Link your favorite payment processor so DataFast can attribute revenue to your traffic sources.
DataFast analyzes your funnel to find what makes people buy, and tells you exactly how to get more of them.
The same page lists web analytics, revenue attribution by channel and by customer segment, custom goals such as signups, funnels, the journey of each visitor from first click to conversion, and visitors in real time. Its FAQ adds an API, a CLI and an MCP server, so that AI assistants and coding tools can query the data.
The price. Its plans are set by an events slider that runs from 10k to 10M+ a month, where an event is a pageview, a payment or a goal you track. As read on 8 October 2026, at up to 10k monthly events on monthly billing, Starter is $9 a month and Growth is $19 a month, and yearly billing is marked 2 months free. Both begin with a 14 day free trial, with no card required. Starter covers 1 website, 1 team member and 3 years of data retention. Growth covers 30 websites, 30 team members and 5+ years, and adds social media mentions and X link attribution.
Two other analytics tools, for context
- Plausible. Plausible describes itself as simple web analytics with no cookies, made and hosted in the EU. As read on 8 October 2026, its plans show Starter at $9, Growth at $14 and Business at $19 a month for up to 10k monthly pageviews on monthly billing, after a 30 day free trial with no card. The page sets the currency sign by where you open it. Ecommerce revenue attribution and funnels are listed on the Business plan.
- Google Analytics. Google's page says Google Analytics gives you the tools free of charge. It also names Analytics 360 for enterprises and shows no price for it.
What AskSami is
AskSami is a marketing and distribution expert for founders who have launched a product and cannot get users or paying customers. It is not an analytics tool: how AskSami works lists an analytics dashboard among the things it is not.
AskSami reads what you give it, all of it optional: your GitHub repository, up to 40 pages of your live site, and the screenshots, ad exports and payment exports. From that it writes an honest read of why the product does or does not sell, and a ranked plan of up to ten ways to get customers, free methods before paid ones. Sami is the one you talk to in the chat.
It does measure, narrowly. Signups, clicks and drop offs come from a small snippet that your own coding tool adds to your product. Payments come from your own Stripe, Paddle or Lemon Squeezy webhook. Each is tied to its source where the snippet recorded one, such as ChatGPT, Reddit or Google, and a payment with no recorded source is kept as unknown, never guessed. That is far less than an analytics tool shows. What AskSami adds is the judgement: why the product does or does not sell, and what to do next.
Signing up is free, and so are your full honest read and your ranked plan. A plan gives you more of Sami. The paid plans are Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month, paid a month at a time with no contract. AskSami launched on 19 September 2026 and has no results of its own to quote.
Side by side
| Compared | DataFast | AskSami |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Web analytics with revenue attribution, shown on a dashboard. | A marketing and distribution expert, as software. Not an analytics dashboard. |
| Who does the work | You do the marketing. DataFast measures the result. | AskSami never posts anywhere for you, never spends your money and never writes to your code. You do those things yourself. |
| What it knows about your product | What visitors do on your site and what they pay. Its GitHub integration shows your commits on the analytics chart and, by its own account, does not read the code. | Your GitHub repository, read only, up to 40 pages of your live site, and the screenshots and exports you give it. |
| What it measures | Visitors, traffic sources, goals, funnels, visitor journeys, visitors in real time, and revenue by channel. | Signups, clicks and drop offs through a snippet, and payments through your payment webhook, each tied to a source where one was recorded. |
| What you get | A dashboard, with an API, a CLI and an MCP server to query it. | An honest read, a ranked plan of up to ten ways to get customers, a dated record, a chat with Sami and, on a paid plan, a morning brief. |
| What it costs | Starter $9 a month and Growth $19 a month at up to 10k monthly events on monthly billing. The events slider runs to 10M+. | Signing up is free, and so are the honest read and the ranked plan. The paid plans are Starter $20, Growth $100 and Max $240 per month. |
| When you pay | After a 14 day free trial, with no card required to start it. | Only when you pick a plan for more of Sami. A month at a time, with no contract. |
When an analytics tool is the better pick
- You already have traffic and need to see in detail where the revenue comes from. That is the question DataFast is built around, with funnels and visitor journeys beside it. AskSami ties a payment to a source and goes no further.
- You want to pay less, or nothing. The Starter plans of DataFast and Plausible are each $9 a month at up to 10k monthly events or pageviews, and Google says Google Analytics is free of charge. AskSami's honest read and ranked plan are free, and its lowest paid plan, Starter, is $20 per month.
- You know what to do and only need the count. If your channel is chosen and your page already sells, you need measurement, not a second opinion.
When AskSami is the better pick
- Few people come, or none. An analytics tool counts visits, so with few visits it has little to count. The read AskSami writes starts from your product itself, not from your traffic.
- You have the numbers and cannot tell what they mean. Ancestorii's analytics showed that around 20 percent of visitors scrolled past halfway and stayed over 30 seconds. Its founder took that as interest, and Ancestorii has never had a paying customer. Nobody is signing up tells that case.
- You do not know which channel to try. The plan ranks up to ten ways to get customers, free methods before paid ones, one family of channels at a time.
Using both
They answer different questions, so using both is sensible. The analytics tool tells you what happened on your site, in depth. AskSami tells you what it makes of your product and what to try next. Once you sign up, a screenshot of your analytics dashboard sent with a message becomes a dated record before Sami answers. The terms a dashboard reports, such as conversion rate and customer acquisition cost, are set out in the marketing basics.
Questions people ask
Is AskSami an analytics tool?
No. How AskSami works lists an analytics dashboard among the things it is not. It ties signups and payments to their source through a small snippet and your own payment webhook, which is narrower than what an analytics tool measures. What it adds is the judgement of why the product does or does not sell.
How much does DataFast cost?
Its own page showed, on 8 October 2026, Starter at $9 a month and Growth at $19 a month for up to 10k monthly events on monthly billing, after a 14 day free trial. The events slider runs to 10M+.
Can AskSami show me which channel my revenue comes from?
In part. Where the snippet recorded a source and the payment came through your Stripe, Paddle or Lemon Squeezy webhook, the payment is tied to that source. A payment with no recorded source is kept as unknown, never guessed. For funnels, visitor journeys and customer segments, use an analytics tool.
Do I need an analytics tool if nobody visits my site yet?
Installing one early costs little. Google says Google Analytics is free of charge, and DataFast and Plausible each begin with a free trial. But a tool that counts visits does not find the first ones for you. How to get the first signups covers that.

AskSami keeps a dated record of every number, channel and decision you give it, and nothing in it is edited or deleted while the account exists. Signups and payments are tied to their source through a small snippet and your own payment webhook. What it adds to them is the judgement: why the product does or does not sell, and what to do next.
